Rubber-Metal Elements:
Versatile due to Combined Materials

Isolation, damping, buffering – rubber-metal elements combine the special properties of elastomers and the characteristics of metals. Therefore, a wide range of applications is possible in various industries.

At Teigler, rubber-metal parts are used primarily as constructional elements for damping vibrations and isolating solid-borne sound in vibration, especially in machinery and plant engineering, construction machinery, commercial vehicles, as well as in measurement and medical technology for laboratory equipment.

In addition to our extensive standard range of rubber-metal elements, we also offer modified standard articles according to your specifications. Our strength lies in the joint development of customer-specific special parts. All elastomer materials are available in all hardness levels.

Our product range includes a large assortment of standard elements, such as:

  • rubber-metal bushes
  • rubber-metal washers
  • rubber-metal machine mountings
  • rubber-metal ring buffers
  • rubber-metal bearing blocks
  • rubber-metal suspension mounts
  • rubber-metal cones
  • rubber-metal bars

Rubber Mouldings: Almost No Limits in Designing Pure Elastomeric Parts

Rubber mouldings are in demand and used in all industries, from medical technology to energy technology, machinery and plant engineering and the automotive industry. The applications include mouldings for protection, sealing parts or pure rubber buffers.

Rubber mouldings are always customer- and solution-specific. Typically, they are used for damping, sealing or as pure wear protection. The choice of elastomer material depends heavily on the chemical, thermal and mechanical conditions, as well as the desired application.

You can choose between different hardness levels and determine oil resistance, UV resistance, grease resistance and weather resistance. These makes the rubber mouldings abrasion-resistant, pressure-resistant and chemically and mechanically durable depending on the respective application.

To manufacture rubber mouldings, plastic rubber compounds are inserted into specially designed metal moulds. First the desired geometry is formed through pressing or injection, then the compound is stabilised through vulcanisation. This process provides for the materials’ specific elastic properties.

Our rubber mouldings are available in various designs and compounds, including:

  • cable grommets
  • seat and door buffers
  • push-in feet
  • caps
  • conical stoppers
  • mushroom buffers/device feet
  • rollers/rings/washers
  • strain-relief grommets
  • self-anchoring buffers
  • spark-plug caps
  • suckers
  • profile rings/seals etc.

Rubber Profiles and Rubber Cords:
Sealing Solution and Edge Protection

Unlike rubber mouldings, rubber profiles and rubber cords are produced endlessly through the extrusion process. In this process, the corresponding rubber compound is plasticised in extruders and brought into the desired cross-sectional geometry (profile cross-section) through attached extrusion tools (nozzles or dies) in the extrusion head of the equipment.

Simple and complex geometries are possible. Reinforcement with steel bands or other materials can also be incorporated for stabilisation. After the mould is formed, the actual vulcanisation takes place, either in a steam autoclave, salt bath, hot air vulcanisation or other methods.

Rubber profiles and rubber cords serve as sealing solutions or for wear protection in various industries, such as:

  • u-profiles
  • door closing profiles
  • padding profiles
  • clamping profiles
  • bumper protection profiles
  • joint sealing profiles etc.

Stampings and Cuttings: Sealing or Damping with Customised Solutions

Stampings and cuttings are primarily used as gaskets, pads, scrapers or dirt collectors in all industries. They are made from semi-finished products, primarily sheets, which can consist of specific elastomers, synthetics or composite materials depending on the requirements and application. Using porous materials such as cellular rubber, foam rubber, polyurethane and others is also possible.

Manufacturing processes such as stamping, plotter cutting or waterjet cutting are used, allowing for customised geometries. The choice of manufacturing process depends on the material, thickness and quantity of parts to be produced.

Stampings and cuttings are used, for example, for:

  • sleeves
  • strips
  • pads
  • scrapers
  • dirt collectors
  • filter inserts etc.

O-Rings: Specialised Sealing Solution with a Wide Range of Applications

A classic solution for sealing applications is the O-ring, which can be described as an endless ring with a round cross-section. These special rubber mouldings can also be made from materials other than elastomers. They usually provide radial or axial sealing for different fluids (gases or liquids). Their design is simple, yet it makes them robust and irreplaceable.

O-rings can be realised in various materials and dimensions. The reliability and service life depend – in addition to proper installation – on the correct groove design, the material used and the temperature limit. The use as a static or dynamically moving seal is also crucial.

O-rings are used, for example, for sealing:

  • bushings
  • covers
  • tubes
  • cylinders
  • flanges
  • plates
  • closures etc.

Hand-made Articles: Shaping Pre-Vulcanized Intermediate Products through Processing

Hand-made articles made of elastomers or rubber are typically pre-vulcanised intermediate products that are subsequently processed to become hand-made products. Grinding, sawing, turning, bonding/vulcanising or drilling are used to produce articles according to our customer’s drawings.

Hand-made articles are in high demand in special machine construction, as well as in the construction machinery and automotive industries. They are particularly suitable for small quantities to avoid the costs of tools or moulds (prototypes, test parts) or for geometries that are difficult or impossible to achieve through moulding tools.

Hand-made articles manufactured by Teigler include, for example:

  • elbows
  • bearer rings
  • machined plates

Castings and Mouldings Made of Polyurethane Elastomers

We provide castings and mouldings in Vulkollan® D15 and Polyurethane D44 according to customer’s drawings or samples. Both elastic materials are suitable for high dynamic loads.

They are characterised by high mechanical wear resistance, high elasticity throughout the hardness range of approximately 70 to 90° Shore and good resistance to many oils, greases, solvents, ozone, UV radiation and high-energy radiation. The high tear resistance and low compression set are also significant advantages of these materials.

Castings and mouldings made of polyurethane are used, for example, as:

  • scrapers
  • linings for conveying systems
  • coupling elements
  • noise protection
  • membranes
  • cutting and punching pads
  • protective jaws
  • hoppers
  • gears etc.

Transformer Oil-Resistant Rubber Parts

Our transformer oil-resistant rubber parts are mainly made from Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR), but solutions using FKM / FFKM as well as fluorosilicone are also possible. The material is resistant to fuels, grease, and oils. NBR also characterised by a moderate gas permeability and good resistance to ozone, aging, and light. The operating temperature can range between -25°C and +100°C continuously. Short-term exposure to temperatures up to +110°C is also possible.

We offer our transformer oil-resistant rubber parts in various forms, including:

  • round cords
  • square cords
  • oval cords
  • profiles
  • bearing blocks

Rubber-Synthetic Elements: Combining Two Materials for an Extraordinary Component

Rubber-synthetic elements combine the properties of various materials in the thermoplastic and elastomeric range. Through the chemical and physical combination of rubber and synthetic, a new extraordinary component is created – with high durability even under heavy load.

elastomeric parts becoming dimensionally stable. Additionally, due to the low overall weight and elimination of corrosion, rubber-metal parts can be partially substituted. From a manufacturing perspective, these are chemically and physically bonded composites between an elastomer or a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) with a thermoplastic material (PA6.6, POM, PP, etc.).

These custom parts are not standard but always customer-specific solutions, including:

  • bushes
  • woodruff keys
  • machine mountings
  • ring buffers
  • bearing blocks
  • suspension mouns
  • cones
  • bars
